I have a new ‘bae’ in my life. My foam roller. I’m hopelessly devoted. It’s there waiting for me after every workout, to loosen up muscles and massage out knots – the nearest I’ll get (yet) to a personal masseuse at my beck and call 24/7. If you haven’t experienced the sweet release of a foam roller massage across your back and shoulders after a long day desk–bound at the office, you simply haven’t lived!
Foam rolling used to be the hushed up secret of athletes, trainers and physios, but now this gorgeous piece of kit is out of the bag. The fiddly name for this massaging technique is self-myofascial release – crack that phrase out at your next dinner party to really impress. It’s the fancy word for a DIY massage that releases muscle tension in all the right places, or trigger points if you want the technical term.
